Bug Lamp (hiru andon)

I had some wooden coasters and I wanted to make a lamp, not a lamp to flood the room with light or even a lamp to read by, just a lamp to enhance the mood.

I wanted a tall lamp to contrast the horizontal lines of the coasters. To add some interest to the lamp I followed the curving grain in the wood at the top.

This is the result... "hiru andon"    Translation = "daytime lamp"

BUG

If you look closely at the bottom left side of the lamp (close-up view in the photo to the right) you will see a bug forever captured right in the wood itself. 

This combined with the glow off the brass backing resulted in the name "BUG LAMP".

discARTed 2014

If you have not read my previous blogs, "discARTed" in a show of art created from discarded books from the library and books that are no longer salable.

My entry for this year, called "enLIGHTen" is a lamp that bi-sects a book and has a drawing of the Picton library on one side and the Books & Company book store on the other.
